Vintage ConditionsAverage winter rainfall and warm spring conditions resulted in an early budburst and excellent shoot growth. A warm to hot summer with favourable rainfall events throughout encouraged steady vine growth and balance, resulting in early ripening. Small berry size led to a crop with intense fruit characters and excellent varietal flavours.
Vinification and MaturationFruit was handpicked and fermented on skins with twice daily rack and return pump overs to ensure maximum extraction of colour, flavour and tannins. The wine was pressed and pumped to 100 per cent new fine grained French oak barriques and hogsheads to complete primary and malolactic fermentation. Once fermentation was complete the wine was racked off lees and pumped back into refreshed barrels for maturation. Gentle rackings of the wine were conducted to achieve a high level of clarity and support wine development. Individual barrels were assessed for quality before the final blend was bottled.
