• Vineyard Region Margaret River, WA
• Vintage Conditions A warm, dry vintage was experienced in 2010 in the Margaret River wine growing region of Western Australia. These conditions resulted in rapid, uniform ripening in Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc with great retention of flavour and natural acidity at full ripeness. The vineyard blocks were managed to ensure the canopy completely covered the fruit to prevent sunburn and to retain flavours in the grape and subsequent wine.
• Grape Varietal 50% Semillon, 38% Sauvignon Blanc, 6% Chenin Blanc, 6% Chardonnay
• Vinification and Maturation Our vineyards in the more northern part of the region tend to produce Semillon with nectarine and lemon flavours whilst Semillon from our more southern vineyards in Margaret River contribute grassy, herbal notes and impart a fantastic fleshiness to the palate. Sauvignon Blanc provides additional flavour intensity with tropical fruit flavours coming from fruit sourced from vineyards in the northern part of Margaret River whereas our cooler vineyard sites in the south of the region produce Sauvignon Blanc with fresh grassy notes distinct to Margaret River. Parcels of fruit were picked in the cool of the night to retain freshness and the cool grapes were softly pressed with only the highest quality juice settled and prepared for fermentation. A strong, cool fermentation followed and when dry, the wine was lightly fined and cold stabilised. These winemaking techniques have preserved freshness and flavour intensity which has then been captured in an early bottling - ideal for our Classic White style.
